Day 2 - Buxton to Lake District / Loch Lomond

Saturday 04/05/2019
----------------------------------

After a freezing night in the tent (0C), we eventually got-up, packed-up our semi-dry gear and headed North.
At least the sun came out today and whilst it wasn't exactly warm at least it didn't rain (much). Did some great roads out of the Peak District before hitting the motorways to the Lake District. The views were amazing. Stopped in Windermere for brunch - full of tourists but a stunning place anyway. Carried on up the road up to Kendal with brilliant views all the way. Great sunshine but a very cold wind. Not at all surprised by the popularity of this region - stunning natural beauty, shame it's becoming so built-up.
Filled the tanks up and hit the motorway heading North. Progress was good but I did feel tired and struggled to focus. After a while I noticed that Dino had vanished from my rear view mirrors. I pulled over on the hard shoulder and waited. Figured he had broken down so attempted to call him but no answer. After about 10 mins he pulled-up next to me. He hit an object on the motorway and the impact sent his sat-nav into the air so he had to stop and refit it / check for damage. All good though.
Glasgow came up in no time. We topped-up the tanks and stopped for a coffee before heading to Loch Lomond and the village of Luss. Found a great campsite but it was 'Caravan Club Members only'. That said, they let us stay as we had small tents and motorbikes so didn't need much space. £55 felt a bit steep for one night!
Camp site is brilliant though - right on the lake shore and our tents are right next to it. Sun came out and it was really pleasant if not a bit chilly. Dino and Krysia cooked some food on the beach and made coffees so we sat on an old log eating our food whilst admiring to views. Priceless (well £55).
After washing-up, we walked to the nearby village in search of provisions and a pub. Went onto the pier, found out a bit more about the lake and islands - impressive. Biggest freshwater lake in the UK. 26 miles long and 5 miles wide in places.
Ended-up in a hotel pub where we had some more bar-food and ciders. Loads of blokes in kilts - must be a wedding on or something. Blokes here are really big. Like the land of the giants. Good day today, despite the distance. Tomorrow we are into the highlands proper and hope to see Glen Coe, etc. before catching the ferry over to Skye from Mallaig.
Hoping the weather holds out for tomorrow. Apparently it was snowing in Aberdeen today.... Scotland is a joy when it's not raining or too cold!
